National and International Physics and Informatics Olympiads
Last week, on 10th of June during the award ceremony of the National Physics Olympiad in Groningen, Lenka Huang DP2 (left on the picture – who will participate in the International Informatics Olympiad for Girls in Germany) and Oli Assenberg DP2 (middle on the picture – who will study Physics in Groningen) surprised Albert Lin DP2 (right on the picture) who participated between 3rd and 10th of June in the National Physics Olympiad where he achieved the 2nd place.
Albert qualified also for the National Informatics Olympiad. The National Physics and Informatics Olympiads take place at the same time, but luckily the organizers of the Informatics Olympiad found a good solution: a few days before the Physics Olympiad, Albert was allowed to do the anticipated Informatics Olympiad where he got the 1st place. For Informatics, he had to do all the required tests in 8 hours (!), rather than spread over two days as the rest of the participants did a few days later. The International Physics and Informatics Olympiads are unfortunately also taking place at the same time, so although Albert qualified for both, he had to choose one of them: he chose for Informatics. In order to make sure that The Netherlands can participate with a complete team with 5 members in the International Physics Olympiad, Albert was “disqualified” and placed officially on the 6th place.
Lenka (left on the picture) also participated in the National Informatics Olympiad two weeks ago, where the top 4 of the country are selected to go to the international contests this summer in Bolivia and Italy. She made it 6th place overall, so sadly not enough to qualify for Bolivia nor Italy, but a few months ago she already qualified for the girls’ Olympiad in Germany in mid-July, so she will still be training alongside the top 4 of The Netherlands Team together with Albert for the upcoming months.
We wish Albert and Lenka success and a lot of fun with the Informatics Olympiads in Bolivia, Italy and Germany. They will keep us informed about their achievements.
