It continues to fill me with immense pride to work with our students and celebrate their tireless effort and dedication as they develop themselves into mature young adults. As we approach the conclusion of another school year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the past half year and share some memorable highlights with you that reflect this journey they’re on!

Tto 4

Our tto 4 students participated in a project week in March, where they immersed themselves in the ever-evolving world of social media and big tech. They explored critical issues surrounding these topics, engaging in thought-provoking discussions and debates. Additionally, they had the privilege of visiting the Second Chamber in The Hague, where they witnessed firsthand the inner workings of our democratic institutions. This enriching experience has hopefully empowered our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.

Furthermore, a most of the tto 4 students demonstrated their continued language development by undertaking the Cambridge English exam. By challenging themselves to achieve this internationally recognized certification, they have not only honed their language skills but have also positioned themselves for future academic and professional opportunities.

In line with the tto department’s commitment to fostering global citizenship, our students had the pleasure of hosting students from Germany, Spain, and India. This cultural exchange provided invaluable experiences, allowing the students to forge friendships, embrace diversity, and broaden their horizons. Such intercultural interactions play a pivotal role in preparing our students for an interconnected world.

Tto 5

In March, our tto 5 students embarked on an enriching travel week, with the gymnasium students visiting Rome and the atheneum students visiting London and Brighton. The trip to Rome is one of the highlights of the gymnasium program at the RLO and has a long, well-established tradition. This was the first year, however, that our tto 5 atheneum students all traveled together as one group and the trip could not have been more successful, owing in small part to the efforts and dedication of the teachers involved!  Both of these wonderful experiences broadened the cultural understanding, our students, deepened their historical knowledge, and hopefully continued to fuel their passion for exploring the world.

Rome

In April, in the spirit of global engagement, our students concluded the course Global Studies with a model united nations evening at school. This event provided a platform for our students to showcase their diplomatic skills, engage in lively debates, and propose solutions to pressing global issues.

Additionally, our tto 5 students actively participated in week-long international internships across various countries. These internships offered them valuable insights into professional environments, enhanced their skill sets, and provided a glimpse into potential career paths. Their eagerness to seek new experiences and embrace different cultures exemplifies their growth and maturity.

As they bid farewell to their pre-exam year, we congratulate our tto 5 students on their accomplishments thus far and wish them the best as they enter their exam year. They have shown resilience and determination in their academic pursuits, and we are confident in their ability to excel in the challenges that lie ahead.

Tto 6

Our tto 6 students faced a series of important milestones during the last half year of their high school careers. In March, they tackled mock exams, which provided them with crucial practice and valuable feedback to fine-tune their preparations for the final examinations.

Additionally, our tto 6 students dedicated two days of their May break to sit for their IB English exams, showcasing their proficiency and commitment to academic excellence. Their diligence and preparation are commendable, and we applaud their efforts.

With the completion of the central exams, our tto 6 students are now on the brink of concluding their high school journeys. As they prepare to bid farewell to this chapter of their lives, we recognize their perseverance, hard work, and personal growth. The experiences and knowledge they have gained throughout their years with us have undoubtedly prepared them for the next phase of their academic and personal lives.

In closing, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our students, parents, and staff for their unwavering support and commitment. The accomplishments and successes we have witnessed over the past half year would not have been possible without your collective efforts.

As we enter the well-deserved break, I encourage everyone to take the time to rest, rejuvenate, and reflect on the year gone by. May this break offer moments of relaxation and quality time spent with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming you back in the new academic year, until then, enjoy your vacations!

Warmest wishes,

Jesse Torgersen,
